History at St Thomas'

History is the study of the past. The study of history helps make sense of humankind, helping pupils to understand the events that shape the world today and those that may influence the future.

We are fortunate to be located in the historic town of Winchelsea, and we make full use of the rich heritage on our doorstep, giving pupils opportunities to explore local history through visits, fieldwork and first-hand experiences.

Our history curriculum is designed to be engaging, creative and immersive. Through a range of hands-on activities, storytelling, enquiry-based learning and the use of historical artefacts, pupils are encouraged to think critically, ask questions and develop a deeper understanding of the past. We use Twinkl History Seekers to support and enrich our teaching, enabling children to dig deeper into historical topics and build their knowledge and skills progressively.
